Pharmacologic Nuclear Test
A pharmacologic nuclear test may be used instead of a treadmill test in cases where a patient is unable to walk on the treadmill. Pharmaceuticals, or medications, such as Adenosine or Dobutamine are used to simulate stress (such as exercise) on the heart. A small amount of radioactive isotopes or dye is injected into the patient’s bloodstream so images of blood flow may be taken by the Gamma camera.
