24 Hour Event Monitor
The physicians of Midwest Heart Specialists use event monitors to record electrical activity of a patient’s heart. The event monitor, is a small device, attached by electrodes (patches) and wires to a patient’s chests. This device allows patients to go about their normal daily activities. If the patient experiences discomfort or an abnormal heart rhythm, a button can be pressed to record the heart’s electrical activity. After the patient’s device records an event, the patient can send the information by telephone to be reviewed by a cardiologist. This information is used to identify intermittent abnormal heart rhythms. The patient usually uses the event monitor for about one month.
