ZYBAN

Use                  Smoking cessation.  Not recommended for children under 18 years of age.

 

Action             Mechanism for smoking cessation is unknown.  Inhibits brain uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, which are neurohormones of the central nervous system.

 

Possible Side Effects

Every drug is capable of producing side effects.  Most patients experience no, or minor, side effects.  Possible side effects:

·        Common: Dry mouth, nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss, gassiness, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia

·        Rare: Seizures, hallucinations, depression, suicidal thinking/behavior

 

You should stop taking Zyban and contact your prescribing health care provider immediately if agitation, depressed mood, or changes in behavior are observed or felt by you, or if you develop suicidal thoughts or suicidal behavior.

 

Zyban should not be started if you have a history of seizure disorder.

 

Guidelines for Taking This Medication

·        May be taken without regard to food

·        Take your medication at the same time each day

·        If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember; do not take it if it is almost time for the next dose

·        Stop this medication if you develop changes in behavior or suicidal thoughts and notify you doctor immediately
