USE                               For the treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension

 

ACTION                        Blocks the effects of endothelin, which is a natural substance in your body that causes narrowing of blood vessels.  Blocking endothelin helps to  prevent the abnormal constriction of the pulmonary arteries.

 

ADMINISTRATION     Tracleer is an tablet taken by mouth usually twice a day.

 

SIDE EFFECTS            Every drug is capable of producing side effects.    Possible side effects include:

 

- headache

 

- flushing (hot flashes)

 

- inflamed throat and nasal passages

 

- swelling of the legs and ankles

 

- low blood pressure

 

- upset stomach

 

- fatigue (tiredness)

 

- itching

 

- palpitations (irregular heartbeats)

 

- anemia (low red blood cell levels)

 

 

GUIDELINES FOR TAKING THIS MEDICATION

 

- Should be taken twice daily by mouth; morning and evening.       

 

- May be taken with or without food.

 

- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

 

- Speak to your cardiologist if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.    

 

- Do not take if you are taking Cyclosporine A or Glyburide as this combination can cause too much Tracleer to stay in your blood.

 

*Monthly liver enzymes and Hemoglobin blood work will be required prior to starting this medication and throughout the use of it.
