USE                                        For the treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension

 

ACTION                                To dilate (widen) pulmonary blood vessels, helping to improve breathing and thus increasing exercise ability.

 

ADMINISTRATION           Revatio is a tablet taken by mouth usually 3 times per day.

 

SIDE EFFECTS                   Every drug is capable of producing side effects.  Most patients experience no or minor side effects.  Possible side effects include:

                                                            -  headache

                                                            -  flushing

                                                            -  insomnia

                                                            -  indigestion

                                                            -  nose bleeds

-  visual disturbances (rare)-bluish vision, blurred

    vision, or sensitivity to light

   

GUIDELINES FOR TAKING THIS MEDICATION

 

 

-          Should be taken three times a day by mouth 4 to 6 hours apart.

-          May be taken with or without food.

-          Do not take with organic nitrates such as nitroglycerin.

-          Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

-          Do not stop taking this medication unless instructed by your cardiologist as this may cause your symptoms to worsen.

-          Speak to your cardiologist if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

-          Notify your doctor or nurse if unusual bleeding occurs.
