LOVAZA
Name: Lovaza
Purpose: Primarily used to lower triglycerides. In some cases it may also lower cholesterol and raise HDL. Also prevents blood clots from forming.
Works by: Decreasing the production of triglycerides in the liver.
Dose: The usual dose is 4 capsules at one time in the morning or 2 capsules twice a day with food. The doctor wants you to take ____ capsules daily.
Possible side effects: Call your doctor or our office if you have:
Nausea, diarrhea, or excessive belching, or any unusual bleeding.
Special instructions:
If you are taking Coumadin or anticoagulant therapy, your protimes should be monitored closely. Be sure to tell your physician if you are taking any herbal medications. Contact your doctor if you notice any unusual bruising or bleeding.
Precautions: Women capable of childbearing should have a pregnancy test (serum HCG) before starting this medication. This is a category C drug and should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lovaza is a prescription medication and should not be substituted with unregulated dietary supplements with omega-3 fish oil in the contents.
