Action         Letairis blocks the effects of endothelin, which is a natural substance in the body that causes narrowing or constriction of blood vessels.  Blocking the effects of endothelin helps to prevent the abnormal constriction of the pulmonary artery vessels

 

Possible Side Effects

Every drug is capable of producing side effects.  Most patients experience no, or minor, side effects.  Possible side effects:

  • Inflammation of throat and nasal passages
  • Swelling of the legs and ankles
  • Palpitations (irregular heart beats)
  • Anemia
  • Nasal congestion
  • Low blood pressure
  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Fatigue
  • Itching
  • Constipation
  • Shortness of breath

 

Guidelines for Taking This Medication

  • May be taken with or without food
  • Take your medication once daily at the same time each day
  • Do not split, crush or chew the tablet
  • If you take more than the prescribed dose, call your doctor
  • If a dose is missed, do not take a double dose
  • Do not stop this medication unless directed by your doctor or nurse
  • Check your blood pressure regularly at home
  • Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking this medication
