FISH OIL

                    Fish Oil Omega 3 capsules       

Purpose: 

To lower triglycerides and raise HDL cholesterol; may also lower total and LDL cholesterol.

Action:

Decrease the production of triglycerides in the liver.

Dose:

Dosages vary in these over the counter products. Maximum dose is a total of 3200mg. of EPA and 2200 mg. of DHA daily.

Instructions:

Increase your daily dose of fish oil gradually as tolerated to minimize side effects.  Take with meals to decrease belching.

       -Take 2 fish oil tablets with a meal each day for 4 days.
       -Take 2 fish oil tablets with 2 meals (a total of 4 tablets
                       per day) for 4 days.
       -Take 2 fish oil tablets with all 3 meals and maintain that
    dose.

Side Effects: 

Call your doctor or our office if you have:  Nausea, diarrhea, excessive belching, or any unusual bleeding.

Special instructions:   

Always take prescribed amount of medicine. If a dose is missed, skip that dose and get back on schedule.
Can place bottle in refrigerator.  Sometimes keeping capsules cold helps cut back on belching/fishy taste.
If taking Coumadin, your protimes/INR should be monitored closely.  Be sure to have your protime/INR done within two weeks of taking the six tablets per day. 

Follow-up lab tests:

In addition to cholesterol profiles, other blood tests will be done periodically for safety monitoring.

Drug interactions:

*If you are taking Coumadin, your prothrombin times (PT’s/INR) will be checked frequently because Fish Oil may increase the effect of Coumadin on your blood.  Please report any increase in bleeding or bruising.
