 INSTRUCTIONS/RESTRICTIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL NUCLEAR ADENOSINE STRESS TEST

§         Do not consume foods, drinks, or medications containing caffeine for 24 hours prior to test including coffee, tea, soda, chocolate & any decaffeinated or “caffeine free” products.

§         Do not eat anything 2 hours before test.

§         You may drink as much as you want of milk, juice & water.

§         Do not smoke or use any form of nicotine including nicotine patches for 24 hours.

§         Examples of medications to avoid for 24 hours before your test:

§         Anacin, Excedrin, NoDoz

§         Aggrenox, Persantine, Theo-Dur, Trental, Pletal, Tegretol, Fioricet Failure to comply with the above directions will require your test to be rescheduled. The day of your test:

§         Do not apply any creams, lotions, or powders to your chest.

§         Please wear loose fitting clothes and comfortable shoes.

§         No chains or medals on your chest.

§         For ladies:  No underwire bra or you will have to remove it for the imaging.

 

A 24 hour notice of cancellation is required.  The radioactive tracer material for your test is ordered in advance and is delivered daily.  It is not reusable.  You may be responsible for the cost of the material if you fail to cancel.  Please call the nuclear department if you have any questions or concerns.

 

The test takes 2 ½ to 3 hours to complete.  You may bring reading material. 

 If you are insured by Medicare, HMO or PPO, Midwest Heart Specialists will submit your bill.  Please remember to obtain a referral from your primary care physician if it is required by your insurance carrier.  If you do not have the necessary referral, you will be asked to sign a statement stating that you are responsible for the bill if your insurance company does not pay.  If you are insured by a commercial insurance company, you are responsible for payment at the time of service.  We will provide you with the necessary documentation to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  Bring your current insurance card so we can make a copy. 

            You will receive a call the day before your test with further instructions.  If you do not receive a call, please call our office.
