Join Midwest Heart Specialists for Their "Heart For Life" 5K

Stake a life-prolonging claim to the benefits of cardiovascular fitness at the 2nd annual "Heart For Life" Health Run/Walk hosted by Midwest Heart Specialists on June 25th.

More than 450 participants enjoyed the inaugural event last year. We asked a few people how it felt to cross the finish line:

"I proved to myself that I could actually do this!" Louise Hocking, 81, Westmont, who has a history of heart failure and an implanted defibrillator.

"I made it! I feel like I accomplished something I really wanted to do." Donald Hocking, 83, (Louise's husband) who had quadruple heart bypass surgery in 1988, and was treated for a heart arrhythmia in 1997 and 1999.

"I'm impressed at how well organized everything is. It makes participating a pleasure." Chuck Ishman, 59, Westmont, who increase his physical activity after a relative had heart bypass surgery two weeks before the run.

Participants set their own pace. All will be winners whether they walk, jog or run across the finish line. This 5K (3.1 miles) event is absolutely free. All cardiac patients, their family and community members of all ages are welcome.

Race Events:
The event will take place on Sunday, June 25th at the Hilton Lisle in Lisle, IL. Adult run/walk will begin at 8:00am followed by a Kids run at 9:30am.

Other details include:

* Race will be professionally timed
* Top finishers in each age category receive an award
* Water stations will be provided
* Finish times will be posted on the internet
* Each Kids Race participant receives a finishers medal

Post-race Celebration includes:

* Free t-shirts for first 500 registered participants
* Free refreshments
* Free cholesterol screening sponsored by Merck Pharmaceuticals
* Free raffle for participants
